Possible IAC Valve issue on 06 VLX - Help

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have an 06 VLX which recently started having starting problems. When i start the boat about half of the time or more the boat will idle high and check engine light will come on. I turn the boat off for a few seconds try it again and it either goes away or exhibits the same issue. Does this sound like an IAC Valve sensor issue? If so where is that located on this boat?

Thanks for your help,

Danny

I'll bite.  You asked a seemingly simple question, but the answer is that you need to do quite a bit of diagnosis before you can ask it.

I can think of many reasons that an engine might idle high, and only one is a sticking IAC valve (which is not a sensor).

Improper spark advance, throttle position sensor, intake leak, sticking injectors, poor crank case ventilation, dirty throttle body, etc. could all theoretically cause high idle.

So to answer your question, yes, it sounds like it could be the IAC valve, but it also sounds like it could be a few other things....

Start by thoroughly cleaning the inside of the throttle body, and maybe do a full tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) also.  You'd be surprised (I hope) at the problems those things can clear up.   If that doesn't help, do a fuel pressure test at key on, idle, cruise, and wide open throttle and we'll try to help some more.
