2018 Malibu TXI 6.0

Recommended Posts

Please Help.  I have a 2018  Malibu TXI  6.0.    I am getting 44 MPH and 4900-5000 RPM at max with a 13x12 standard prop.  Is this normal?    I had a 2013 Nautique 200 with a 6.0.  Whole shot on the Nautique and speed was much better.   RPM would run up to 5500 on the Nautique with is standard RPM for that motor.   Is this normal performance for a 2018 TXI with the standard 6.0.

Compiling several discussion threads across a couple of forums - the new gen TXI does lack some performance particularly in hotter weather, and it appears from feedback there has been an improvement as people are not having the same issues with their '19's.  I would contact your dealer or Malibu to see what the change is.

One item to try, crack the engine box open some to get more air underhood to see if there is an improvement (simply prop it up a bit with a small 2 x 4 for a quick test).  Lack of underhood air seems to be an issue.

Does it run poorly first thing in the morning when it's cool?  As @Woodski mentioned, it seems that the '17 and '18 models had an air starvation issue that caused a performance loss when the underhood temps rose.  This engine was in the '15 and '16 model TXi and there were no issues in those from what I've read.

Your speeds are what I'd expect at those RPMs.  If it seems your issue is only when the weather is hot, it's the ECM pulling power due to it thinking it's too hot.  Apparently there is a heat shield available from PCM to prevent the intake air temp sensor from thinking the air is too hot.

ski boats are inefficient by design to get the wake flat.  All the new ski boats are pigs compared to older ones.  But the wakes are nice.
