Rear Facing Transom Seat Storage Drains

So the rear facing transom seat storage areas are great for dock lines, flip flops, misc stuff but it gets really wet back there and since there are no drains they just fill with water. I was going to just drill holes in them but I don’t want water just draining onto the engine/wiring, even though I think there is enough space for them to just drain to the floor without getting on anything.

I figure it’s best to add drains like on the engine warming tray. Does anyone know where to buy these part or something similar? I know I can get the clear tube at the local hardware or HD.

TIA

I was thinking about just gutting/coring the OEM one and be done with. I think that will be a winter project. One of the first things I did was to remove the "rip the new upholstery hose clamp" on it and replace it with a zip tie with the tail cleaned up.

I only posted pictures of the warming tray one as an example. I want to do something with the rear transom seat storage bins.

I was thinking the same thing. Plus doing something with the lame rear carpeted ballast pump hose covers. They support absolutely no weight and IMO, serve purely a cosmetic function. If I find some threaded/screw in barbed hose inserts I will post them up.

Something like this would work well. I saw a 1/2" size somewhere a while back, but can't find it now.

That 5/8”s one might be perfect! Probably bigger than I need but a flush mount plug like that would probably be better. I wonder if HD would have something similar.

Sadly I learned this the hard way. STUPID place to put a razor edged hose clamp. Tried to get it warranted but no luck. They did get me a replacement skin at cost..

I didn’t even know that the transom storage bins were available or an option.  I’m going to look into buying some...would be useful to have more storage back there.

Thanks for posting. What is the story with the drill bit?  Can you use a normal bit to drill the hole in the plastic?

So I finally got around to this. Was really simple and I don’t know why it isn’t done from the factory.

Parts:

I started by grinding down the through hull fittings. They were close to 1/4” tall now they are a little less than an 1/8”. Figured it would help with water draining.

Started by using a spade bit to drill a hole in the storage bins. I got lucky and picked a spot far enough away from the engine divider panels. I didn’t even think of that, but like I said, lucky. So for anyone doing this in the future take note and make sure your will clear. I would have just notched the divider panel but that can be avoided.

Next I used some silicone and secured the through hull fitting to the bin. Silicone is probably over kill but that’s the nature of a TMC project right?

Finally I put the bin back in the boat and realized how close I was to having the through hull fitting crash into the engine divider. They are quite long out the bottom of the bin since they are meant to go through a hull... lol

Snaked the hose into the bottom of the hull

Hopefully my dock lines stay dry now!

I modded my pizza tray (above engine) drain to get rid of the interior slicing hose clamp the factory puts on it.(Don't ask) Also made the amount of water in the tray way less because it doesn't need to be 1/4" deep before running out. Nice design Malibu!

Take off clamp, Glue stem in tube, cut a slice out of top flange so water can run in without needing to build depth first, push flange back in tray. Think I also had to glue stem in rubber grommet also but don't remember for sure. Do remember I sliced something else off but should be self explanatory if you look.image.thumb.png.372732c55c743129d0099bc57bc4a908.pngimage.thumb.png.81e93d4ad9aff15b95958b79cc2b8b81.png
