Warning stickers - remove?

@bbattiste247 made mention of a new boat in another bread since the warning labels were still by the gas fill.  Do you strip all warning  labels on boats or leave some?  I haven’t removed any of mine yet and was actually just thinking of it yesterday.

I removed everything but the boat capacity sticker that gives the weight and person limit. If I was stopped by a patrol boat that may be something I would be asked to show.

I'm not sure why they would ask you to show something that you are not legally required to have on a 20'+ craft.  There are brands that don't even offer the sticker, as it really means that boat manufacturer pays NMMA to be part of their non-government organization.

Funny this topic comes up!  At the end of last season I sat staring at all the stickers and wondered do I really need to keep these cause they really take away from the boat!  Can’t really believe I’ve been looking at them since 2016!  I am now empowered to remove every one!

In Washington State we need to keep the carbon monoxide warning sticker on the transom (or get one from WSDOT which is actually a little smaller than the one Malibu uses.) They will look for the sticker any time you get stopped and inspected, it is a legal requirement.  Everything else can come off. Most of the stickers pull right off.. the big one next to the capacity sticker was the only one I had any issues with.

I remove all but the CA emissions sticker on the port side.

Curious about this. Why?

Too late for me, she gone.

I'm confused (maybe I need another cup of coffee) but what capacity sticker? I have a capacity placard that is riveted to the trim by the throttle. I also get carbon monoxide warning stickers with my registration stickers, I don't remember the exact wording but it was some scary "you will put this on your boat" type of thing.

Three reasons:

1) Force of habit - We used to boat a lot in Cali and I had been told that the "Law Dog" wants to see that sticker, so I always left it.

2) Resale value - If #1 is true then my next buyer may want to have it on there.  Don't really want to lose a sale over a sticker.

3) Looks -  It's not an ugly orange sticker and actually matches my black/silver schemes, so...

Friend of mine bought boat out of state and in process of registering boat in California was missing that sticker or hang tag that goes somewhere on engine from factory. He got it done but it was a pita as I recall.

That is how it was on my 08.. now in 2019 they slap a yellow sticker (looks the same as the placard) on the seat base by the observer storage along with 3 of 4 other stickers.  super classy... but most are easy to peel off.

What a difference a few years makes, and it might be the final destination of the boat too. In my 2015 the area you've circled is carpeted so it wouldn't be possible to put a sticker there and I have a placard screwed in below the throttle. It would be very interesting if there were boats made the same year where some had a sticker and some had a placard.

I thought my placard was riveted too, but it's just screws in it. Now I'm going to be looking at every boat just because I'm wondering what the logic between sticker and placard is.

One of the main reason's is two different hull construction methods. Your's is a 3 piece hull, IE the carpet and vinyl wrapped trim pieces. @gregtay's is the new two piece hull construction method so those areas are finished gel coat now.
