Fast idle

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

My 2001 Malibu response lx was idling around 500 to 700 rpm when it was in my driveway with hose water supply.  I did oil change, oil filter, transmission fluid change, and for some reason now the boat is on the lake, it's idling at all times at 1500 or higher rpm.   Is there anything I could have done to cause the boat to idle higher like that?

It's the monsoon 350ci, 5.7l.

Thanks!

Gage

I experienced a similar issue several years ago. My high idle issue was due to the PCV hose being disconnected. If I recall correctly the hose runs from the PCV valve to the intake air filter.

Agree with Murphys - could be PCV hose accidentally disconnecting. Also check that IAC connector is still attached (IAC is located in throttle body).

Hey,

Thanks all.  I replaced the tps and the pcv valve, then cleaned the iac with carb cleaner.  Back to prefect idle ~600 rpm.  I was going to replace one at a time, but when I pulled the tps it was actually damaged, there was no spring back, like the new one had so I just replaced it.
