LED mods - 2019 23 LSV

Recommended Posts

This isn't much compared to the LED work some others are doing but here's my upgrade with a few pics. This is a pretty quick and easy mod to make, with help from another crew member that had some leftover supplies. I would've done this sooner if I'd realized how easy it would be.

Malibu's stock LED's are using 2-wire Weather-Pack connectors, which you can get on Amazon, so this was basically a plug and play deal once the new LEDs were attached to the Weather-Pack plugs. Grab some 3M doublesided waterproof mounting tape from Amazon too.

Here’s the stock LEDs.

The trickiest part was backlighting the sub, which requires removing the bow storage bin and sub cover. There's just a few screws for each one of those though.

Strip lighting attached upside down with the double sided tape.

That looks fantastic. I would like to do the same to my MXZ. Did you replace the stock white bulbs with strip lighting or simply change bulbs out for blue.

The walkways are just swapped out with blue bulbs but the sides are strip lighting.

Does the sub already have a power wire for the backlighting, or did you have to pull new lead. I don't remember my sub being lit factory?

The sub string was spliced into the starboard walkway lead.

Yes, they fade to off like the stock LEDs.

Thanks. Now I got to do it. My boat is Blue anyway, it was meant to be. Anyone looked at the lights on outside of side windows? They need to be changed too.

Can you guys share link to the lights you used?

Got a link for the blue bulbs?  I think the factory white ones come with a pigtail.  Is that how the swap works as well?

To answer my own question about side light, It is a small strip LED. I decided to paint the white Plate in front instead of swap bulbs. 10 Min per side and free if you had paint at home, I did.image.thumb.png.c4b2c57a9feada764690ad4947101fa2.pngimage.thumb.png.b2a882a614fc93caa520d8d28aa0d514.pngimage.thumb.png.d636fb7926ec619dd72ba22379c8a9c2.pngimage.thumb.png.183d6415fe6eb3ae8440b611c531a3a1.png

Looks bluer than first pic indicates.

How does this emblem come off to get to the red led here? It will have to be changed out to blue too!image.thumb.png.80d9469200a67d4cc3acb974e1adb48d.png

My wife will love me forever if I can make those interior emblems blue instead of red.  Keep us posted on this!

I had one of the lights out of place and requested my dealer fix it at my 10 hour service. I asked him how they access it. His reply was they can most times reach it through a speaker hole. I haven't confirmed it.

As you can see in my pic, this one is not in correct place either as the led strip id directly under the left rear corner leaving a bright spot. May have to pull speaker and see. I know the gap from under seat is too tight to get hand through and from top it is to many bends and distance for arm to reach.

IME, I have not been able to really secure these types of lights down with the adhesive on the back of the strips. I always use the adhesive tape linked below to hold the strips in place. It may be difficult to attach it to the lights through the speaker hole though.

Double stick adhesive tape.

Replaced the stock bulbs with strip lighting, except for the walkway where I swapped out for the blue bulbs.
