Speed input...Paddle wheel or ZeroGPS?

Not sure if it’s just my boat, but the reaction time of perfect pass seems to better on the paddle wheel at wakeboard speeds, but the GPS works better at surf speeds.

Only reason I could think is maybe the paddle wheel isn’t running as true at low speed.

I have only used the paddle wheel and it works great until you go over waves while surfing.  Then the boat surges.  Does it do this with the GPS?

Yes, because the cruise is trying to maintain a constant speed. You slow down going up a wave and speed up on the backside of it.

Geez... how big are those waves? :)

My boat has the option to set the cruise via engine RPM as opposed to speed. Haven't really messed with this much but I am told it can keep speeds more solidly/smoothly if it is used right. There are drawbacks conceptually obviously. Would this work for surfing? Does anyone have any experience using the cruise this way?

I bet it would work okay... that’s how we skied before the fancy perfect pass. That said, I watch the rpm on our perfect pass, it does fluctuate. Hitting waves and going through turns are when it increases the most.

Honestly, I am not sure if the newer boats have an RPM option. I really only have surging when I am going over another surf wake, especially going with the wake. It will surge a tad going through normal waves, but it is nothing to be concerned about.

In rough water I had cruise set a 20mph . while using gps rpm's would surge but kept the boat exactly at 20mph , when I switched to paddle wheel the ride smoothed out and was more comfortable but speed fluctuate +-2mph
