2016 Monsoon 5.7 350 Fuel Filter on a Response TXI?

Recommended Posts

Hello Crew!  Hoping @ahopkinsVTX or @oldjeep or any other TXI owner can help me out.

My Response TXI just turned 100 hours so it's time for some additional maintenance.  Will be replacing the oil (Rotella 15-40) and oil filter (Napa Gold 1515) again, impeller (Johnson 09-812B-1), spark plugs (AC Delco 41-101 iridium) and the manual says to service or replace the fuel filter.

I can't find it (and it's pretty easy to access the motor and look around on an inboard :)) and I'm trying to figure out part number since the manual lists the part number as R077019 Primary Fuel Pre-Filter (if equipped with FCC fuel system) (it's the same manual for the 350, 409, and 450).

So two questions?  Are 350's equipped with this pre-filter? And if so where is it?

Many thanks for your help.

Had to google what a fcc system was.  This looks like the filter, and if you can't find something that big then it must not be there.

Thanks for looking it up @oldjeep.  I'll go digging further and if I can't find anything like that I'll just chalk it up to not having one.  The two local dealers both claim to replace it in their service so I'll need to look a little more.  Thanks for your help.

I’ll be honest, I never changed the fuel filter. She always purred like a kitten so I had no reason to change it imo.

Thanks @ahopkinsVTX.  Not sure if I can sleep as easy but you're right - the first 100 hours she's purred so not sure if I need to change it or not.  Plus I only run 92 octane.  Should mean cleaner gas with less crap to clog the filter so I might be fine in the end.

I don't know if Octane is the issue so much as the ethanol. While the engines are rated for ethanol gas, ethanol tends to attract water and glob up (from what I understand) so any moisture in the tank may slowly start clogging the filter. Probably not a serious concern but we are called "enthusiasts" for a reason...

Like @23LSVOwner mentioned, there’s a sock filter on the bottom of the fuel pump inside the tank. I changed mine at about 450 hours and it was clean as can be.

On top of the fuel pump there’s the fuel pressure regulator / back flow valve which has another filter built in. That one can only be changed, by replacing the whole pressure regulator. It’s a PITA to do and I would advice on leaving it alone as long as you have no issues with fuel pressure while engine running or (as I experienced) pressure dropping when engine is shut off for a extended period of time.
