05 VLX Lift Bunk Question

Hey Everyone,

My wife and i looked at a whole bunch of boats over the winter/spring and finally landed on a super clean 2005 Malibu VLX with 500 hours. We are super exited to get out on the water as this is our 1st boat but have been around water in our youth! Ill post a few pics of the boat and making an amp rack i did to help simplify troubleshooting and had to purchase a new amp due to possible corrosion on an old unit.

On to the Issue! we purchase a used 2007 craft lander 10' boat lift and it came with the 6" bunks- My worry is that when i measure the bottom of the hull the fins coming down off the boat are 7" - do i need to buy the craft lander 12' bunks that are 12" tall and modify it to lift our lift? or is there another option? Im not sure what clearance i need as the boat lift has a straight "I" beam cross brace that the boat needs to travel over to hit the raised bunks. (on another note my boat trailer has a "U" shape to allow the boat to slide in. does Craft Lander offer this type of thing?

 

Not sure what measurements i should be taking to make sure this thing sits correctly on the boat lift.

Not sure you can do the running gear cutout without cutting and welding. Raising it will work though with the kit you showed (I think).  Looks something like this in action?  But flat boards.  If the thing is going to sit, I'd have two sets of bunks like a trailer.

I have the optional 6" risers on my all aluminum lift; which will hurt me when the lake gets shallow. For me, any additional space on the running gear is comforting. And before i aligned my guide  poles more tightly, a poor parking job could result in the fins being on the wrong side of the bunk, so the boat not self centering.

Technically, the lift should always be down when you drive on it, in that case, your fins won't catch - and at docking speed, it shouldn't impact you very negatively.

How did you make out with this project anyway? I'm eyeing a used lift that will need to be modified.
