Alternator or battery?

Recommended Posts

Danann

I've got a 2018 Wakesetter I bought last Sept.  We've put 11 hours on the boat.  We took it out today after being in storage all winter.  Boat started fine.  About an hour out on the lake, we started to lose power.  Boat went dead.    Could it be a faulty alternator?  Boat is practically new. Any other possibilities?

Did you try switching to a different battery on your perko switch?

Are all battery connections good? A loose connection can cause a lot of problems.

Sure sounds like the alternator then. Pretty easy to pull and get tested at a local auto parts store.

Load test the batteries first.  They die pretty easily.

The alternator may have lost its field. You can prompt it into starting up (youtube has some useful videos).

I'd throw a charger on them and bring them up to full charge 1st.
