Black gel coat

Recommended Posts

Wondering if you have any suggestions or step-by step for oxidation and small scratches from bumpers on a black gel coat? I am going to buy a buffer with wool and a second synthetic pad tomorrow. Interested in your thoughts on compounds and steps for a mirror shine on a black gel coat? Thanks

I just buffed, polished, sealed and waxed my entire boat using the steps outlined in the following article:

I skipped the wetsanding.

Used 3M™ Perfect-It™ Gelcoat Heavy Cutting Compound, 3M Finesse-it II polish, Starbrite Marine Polish with P-Tef to seal it and 3M Ultra Performance  marine paste wax.  Turned out awesome with mirror finish on the black gel coat.  Took a good bit of work but results are phenomenal.

There are different pads for different applications.

personally I’d skip the wool unless you have heavy oxidation or scratches, pick up a 3,5,7 pack of foam pads , and a 3-4 step cut -polish-seal product
