What do you mean by "new version" strut?   You didn't buy a strut for a 2016 and newer boat, did you?

I'm really not sure what you are trying to ask, but the prop shaft is just an alignment thing.  It will go in a straight line from the prop to the v-drive/transmission.  If it won't go through, you aren't aligned straight.

Thanks for the fast reply.  First of all we are from Germany so it is not easy to explain our problem.  According to the Info on Bakes online Malibu has changed the Strut company.  That is why we had to buy the new version / model / Type of strut.

The bearings of the old strut aren´t available in Germany.   In my opinion the strut is not adjustable. Maybe i am wrong but that´s how I figured it out.

The angle of 16 degrees is the same for the new and the old Strut.

Yup - did you measure it to make sure the new strut is actually 16 degrees?   I only ask because googling the part number on that strut provides absolutely no information.  Did the shaft test out as straight?

@JeffK
The problem is that the wavebock is higher than the old one.
Thus, the shaft is in contact with the through sleeve. I can not even push the shaft to the transmission.
Your suggestion first to attach the shaft to the gearbox and then to mount the Wellenbck, yes, not, so the shaft would grind on the housing of the grommet.

@oldjeep

The German Malibu dealer has sold us this strut and said it was the newer version.
The angle of the new Strut is 16 degrees, we have measured this. It seems to us that the new Strut is higher than the old one.

Tomorrow I will try again to get the original bearings somewhere in Europe.

Thanks you so far guys

The Marine Original Marine Hardware Number is SBRG1.12x1.38x20 ont the marinehardware.com Webside. I just do not find a German dealer or at least Europe dealer

The new Strut is 3 mm higher than the old one. The German Dealer has said to me I should add washers until I get through the hole?
Is that right? The angle changes accordingly.

I am also afraid that if the strut is not laying on the gelcoat surface completely it may crack the gelcoat surface when pulling on the screws , right?

@justgary

Thanks for your help, I have just ordered the bearings from a german mastercraft dealer.
I will try them out as soon as I have recieved them.

I would add fiberglass before I would use washers.  It would be pretty simple to just thicken up the pad where it mounts using matte and resin.  Any fiberglass shop should be able to handle it.

The nut on the propeller just needs to be tight enough that the prop is properly seated on the shaft.  Take the keyway out, slide the prop on as far as it goes and mark the back side of the shaft with a marker.  After you put the prop key and prop back on, the prop should seat back to the same spot.

I don't recall there being published torque specs for the coupler.
