Temp gauge issue

Recommended Posts

The temp gauge on my 04 Response had been acting up lately. For a while it would work OK, showing 160 degrees and then it would drop down to zero, then read properly again and keep doing this for the duration of the run. Now it doesn't work at all. All other gauges in the cluster are fine.

When I turn the ignition on I can hear the whirring sound behind the dash, the other gauges deflect but the temp gauge doesn't move.

It assume the temp sender unit is the one in the front of the motor with one cream coloured wire attached? If I earth this wire there is no response from the gauge.

If the gauge isn't working will the computer still detect a high temp from the other sensor and set off an alarm? Will the engine go into limp mode or isn't it smart enough to do that? Hate running without a temp gauge. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks
