Oil Change Pump Suggestions

Recommended Posts

On my Malibu, i can drain the oil through the drain kit, so i have never needed a pump.

For the houseboat, i will need to pump the oil out.  What are some good options for the pump / container?

Thanks for that.  The drive engine has the oil drain hose attached to the pan, but there isn't room to get it to drain into anything.  I think I can connect to that drain hose with a pump and pull directly out of the pan.  I will look at the Jabsco and WestMarine versions.

This was 150 or so. I bought one, used it last week, worked great.

I have heard that these have enough suction to get the oil at room temp.  Sometimes it is nice to not have to fire up the boat.

They do have good suction, but they recommend 120-140 degrees so I warmed it up first. Sucked it all out in about 7min, then let it gurgle for for another 5-7 min.  The pump instructions say it is rated to run dry.

I’ve been using a similar type for over a decade... I always warm the engine up as it seems to help get as much oil as possible out :)

if your oil checking tube has a garden hose type end, you can screw it right on for a nice seal.
