Battery placement

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Recently purchased a 2011 VLX Wakesetter 21 ft. Both batteries are mounted on port side and interfere

with the fatsac. We were looking to move batteries to the front port side ski locker using 50mm battery cable.

Is this the best option?

This boat is Australian built. Any other thoughts?

Cheers

50mm cable?  As in 5cm thick? or as in 5mm in metric gauge being approximately equivalent to 4awg?

If the latter, you need to go much bigger on the battery cable.  Malibu (US) uses 00 awg wire when locating batteries under the observer's seat/in the observer's compartment.

(I'm referring to this chart for metric gauge / american wire gauge comparisons: https://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm)

Thanks shawndoggy, good to know Malibu does fit batteries up front.

We have relocated batteries, 50mm2 cable equals 00AWG cable.

Thanks again.

Malibu doesn't put them in the observer compartment by 2011?  Weird.

I HIGHLY recommend AGM batteries that fit under the observer seat. The storage under the observer seat is always a pain to access...why use up perfectly good and highly utilized oberver comparment storage with batteries?
