Is a 2014 23 LSV with the Monsoon 350 under powered at 4,000’ elevation?

We currently have a 2009 23 LSV with the 350 monsoon and Acme 2247 prop. We have been very pleased with it. We boat at 4,000’ elevation and have had no problems with performance out of our boat, including having 8-10 people on board. 

I am considering an upgrade to a 2014 23 LSV with the 350 monsoon. I would assume performance would be similar, however I thought I’d get a sanity check. 

Is is there anything I should be concerned about with a 2014 with the 350 monsoon?  Anything else I need to think about with this year model?

I’d say that is pretty borderline. No way I’d buy without a good on water test. 

The LS3 in my 2014 LSV does very well at 3600’ but there have been times I have wanted more power at 5500’ with full ballast and 12 people. I always want more power at our higher altitude lakes.

You’d want the 2419 prop,

my 14 lsv with 350 was not under powered at sea level, but at 6k Tahoe I couldn’t run it as slammed, 1/2 to 3/4 full in the rear, and bow weight was a must.

Yes very under powered at that alt, even with the 2419 prop.  My VTX was unpowered with the 350 at 3800 feet at lake powell

I run my VTX with the 340 at 7000 ft.  I would call it slightly underpowered with the 1235 (I think that's the right number), but I am thinking of going to a lower pitch prop.  It is sluggish when I'm loaded with ballast and VAB at that altitude, but it still works.

I had a 14 with 450 and ran it at my local lakes, which are 4000'.  That boat never felt "overpowered."  

It depends how you use the boat I guess, and whether you intend to run plug and play ballast full with 8-10 in the boat.  In that case, definitely underpowered.

I think you will be disappointed with that setup.  As others have said, how do you plan to use the boat? How much ballast are you going to run?  Surf and wakeboard?

Planning to use 75% surfing and balance would be an assortment of activities. The boat in question has 750’s in the locker and full factory ballast. Would typically have a family of 5 with the occasional crew of 10 including kids that are younger/ lighter. 

 

Sounds like this could be a borderline decision, even when prop’d right.

Yeah it's going be super upder powered with 750s full, you're going to have a hard time maintaining speed while surfing when everything is full, and forget ever running full wake boarding

I will pile on with the ls3 love.  My ‘15 lsv had it and it never disappointed at 5000’.  I routinely ran 2500 - 3000lbs over stock.
