Remote Oil Filter purchase options?

After my recent milky oil issues on other threads, I have changed the oil 3 times now dealing with one ongoing issue in the past 2 months.  Now I realize I WANT that oil filter relocation kit.  My question is, why can't I find this kit externally from the Bakes' $300 kit they sell?  Just a quick google for remote oil filter kits GM 5.7 shows prices around the $65 mark.  What gives.....  If I need to spend the $300 at Bakes, I will.  However, wanted to see if anyone knows or has used a kit externally from what bakes or our dealers sell.  If I'm simply paying for the same parts but bakes is offering a bracket mount to our indmar engines that fits exactly, I could probably fabricate a bracket myself and save $100's (if that is the only difference).  Summit Racing has tons of GM relocation kits.  Picking the correct one would be most important but I have to ask the questions.

I did a hybrid setup on my LS1. Parts at the block are Indmar and the rest is a Jegs universal fit setup.  This was significantly cheaper, allowed me to put the filler where I wanted it and I am able to run a much larger filter.

Can you snap a photo when you have a chance or send URL’s so i can save some money?  I can fabricate my own SS mount if need be

Well the problem is, larry at Indmar saysit has to be marine quality or somerhing along those lines and most of those kits says “not for marine use”

I wonder what marine quality entails? Only thing i can think of is that maybe the lines are required to have crimped hoses rather than hose clamps.

I think the issue is casting versus billiet material. Overtime the castings were not holding up in the  marine environment.

OK, sounds weird.  There are plenty of cast aluminum parts on most modern marine engines.  Not sure what additional stress or environmental factors a marine engine would see - a filter adapter on a car gets wet/full of grime and road salt way more than a boat one would.

I guess if that is the issue, there are plenty of billet options out there

Have you checked with your dealer.  I got mine for $350 installed from the dealer.  I thought it was a fair price and I didn't have to do any wrenching.

BTW, I love the remote filter.  This and a 12V oil pump make oil changes soooo much easier.

Heh heh.  That's where I would decide to buy the cheap one and then strip the paint, put a chromate conversion coating on it, prime it with zinc chromate, and then paint it again.  Only another $50 and 100 hours of work!
