Flame Arrestor Removal

Recommended Posts

Folks,

I've got a 2007 VTX with the Malibu/Indmar LCR 320hp engine that I'm winterizing. I can't seem to remove the flame arrestor. I've loosened the clamp holding the arrestor on, but it doesn't want to come off. It seems to me that it should just lift up and slide right off but there's something preventing that, like there's something holding it down. Is there a trick to removing the flame arrestor? I've posted a quick video of it on YouTube to demonstrate.

Thanks,

John

Yeah, that thing is a SOB!

The clamp is the only thing that holds the flame arrestor to the TB.

the TB has some sort of sharp lip/edge all around where the flame arrestor gets stuck on. (It’s just soft aluminum.)

You have to use some upward force while keeping on wiggling and turning it.

Be careful not to bend it too much in the process.

I have an 07 vtx but with the 340 monsoon so may be a little different.  It was a pain but finally took a piece of wood/cut off broom handle and placed on edge and just moved around tapping on edge.  Came right off.
