Remove brakes on SMP trailer

Recommended Posts

jvianco

I've got an SMP tandem axle trailer, presumably it's a 2002 model year to match the boat.  I'm trying to remove the brakes so that I can replace the hub bearings.  Can anyone tell me how to remove the brakes so that I can get the hub off?  I've done some searching, both here and on Google, and everything that I've seen so far doesn't seem to resemble the brakes on my trailer.

Thanks,

JV

I have an '01 SMP dual axle.  UFP stuff all around - simply unbolt the two caliper bolts and it slides off.  The rotor is part of the hub/lug/bearing assembly and comes off when you remove the cotter pin and large nut.

There are YouTube videos on how to remove replace UFP trailer brakes.  Look them up.  Some are definetly “shadetree” classics.....

Thanks!  That was exactly the information I needed to find the right tutorial.
