Fuel pump

2013 23LSV. Fuel pump died. I started troubleshooting at the fuse box, replaced the relay, success! Ran for an hour, died again. Replaced relay, good again.

Thoughts? What may be causing this after some use? If it’s a short, shouldn’t it trip instantly? Do I have to replace my fuel pump? Or can I troubleshoot further?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if the fuel pump uses a brushed DC motor or not, but I assume so.  They tend to shed carbon from the brushes as they wear, slowly changing the resistance profile over time.  Consequently, the current needed to run the motor gets higher over time.  As @Eagleboy99 said, extra load on the motor only adds to the problem.  Be sure to check all of the electrical connections in the path as well, since poor connections add to the current requirement as well.

Did you replace a relay, or a fuse?
