Frayed Power Wedge wires

Recommended Posts

I was cleaning up around the boat, which is kept covered in the driveway, and saw the wires between the transom and actuators are frayed. I had it in the water all weekend over Labor Day, Maybe some water critter got curious. I have been under the boat a good bit this summer and haven’t noticed any damage to the wires other than today.

Anyway...Other than having them replaced, any ideas on a quick/economical fix? Or is it easy enough just to replace them. I haven’t looked on the other side of the transom yet to see where those terminate on the inside of the hull. It doesn’t look like the wires that carry the power are damaged, only the outer cover and the insulation.

Thanks!

I would put some heat shrink around the damaged area and try to make it as waterproof as possible.

My concern is that water will track down the inside of the cable and get into the actuators.

Good call, it would be my concern also. I would pull the actuator caps (2 screws on "my 2010 Lencos") where the cables go into the caps and seal the wire shrouds where they come out on the inside of the caps with silicone just to be sure.
