USB inputs

Something I found odd on our cruise last night.  The USB plug-ins under the phone holder and in the little compartment to the right of the helm do not seem to work with the stereo, only the one in the glovebox does.  Does that sound right?

That is correct its the same on my boat.  Supposedly the one under the phone holder is meant to accept a USB drive to update software and you are not supposed to plug your phone into it.  It can cause a boot issue that required you to shut down and restart the computer.  I know several who do plug the phone in after your running and it seems to not cause an issue.  I do use the one in the dry box by the helm to charge my phone.

I use the USB under the phone holder to charge phones all the time without issue.

As I read this post I wondered. Is it possible for a virus from a phone to migrate into the computers on the boat? Is this why some have problems and others do not? I know I have a computer that I use only for programming lighting controls. No internet or email whatsoever.

Technically, maybe - but who'd write a virus to overthrow a Malibu boat?  It is not like the onboard computer is controlling the electrical grid.  :)
