1999 sunsetter fuel problems

Recommended Posts

My 1999 sunsetter with indmar 5.7 carb engine is having continuing fuel issues. Now after replacing the; carb, fuel pump, separator, check value and inspecting all the lines,  it appears the fuel pump is not turning on when the ignition switch is engaged. We understand there is a cutoff on certain engines after 10 seconds if the engine is not running, not seeing any fuel being pumped at startup. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The fuel pump is only powered under 2 conditions.  If there is oil pressure (<7psi) or the key is in the "start" position.  Check with a meter, across the fuel pump connector, for voltage while cranking.

The fuel cutoff switch (which is closed by oil pressure) is located at the back of the intake manifold to the port side of the distributor. It should have three wires connecting to the top - orange, red and purple. Jump the red to the purple and turn on your ignition. If the fuel pump runs you know the switch is bad.

Edit: I shouldn't say the switch is necessarily bad but if the pump runs you will know that your pump isn't the issue. Like Madman said (with the switch wired normally) the pump will not run when you key the ignition but only when you turn the key to start.
