Old boat new engine

Hey all I havnt posted in forever. I recently sold my old skier and I am getting ready to purchase a new to me boat. One that I am considering seriously is a 99 Sunsetter VLX. The original owner didn’t winterize and the dealer just installed a brand new motor. Currently sitting with 2hrs on it. I wanted to run it by the group and find out if there’s anything else I should be worried about with the knowledge that the previous owner let the block freeze? Also this boat doesn’t have a wedge I assume I would be able to have dealer install one?

As far as the rest of the boat, I’d assume you would be ok, as I don’t think there is much to do with your boat outside of the engine and plenty of boats sit outside in the winter. You shouldn’t have ballast, but could have a shower to check of something wasn’t drained properly over the winter.

Make sure they have performed all of the regular maintenance, oil, impeller, trans, cap/wires, plugs, etc. You can probably find a good bit of that info on the forum.

My larger recommendation would be to check out everything with a fine tooth comb (2x!) to make sure everything looks good and is operational. Instruments, starter, sensors, etc. I would be concerned that someone who fails to winterize a boat, may have neglected things elsewhere.

Maybe also have the dealer throw in their best detailing to get rid of grime in hidden places.

Lastly check everything on the trailer, bearings, tires, lights, brakes, spare, etc. I feel like dealers neglect trailers.

BTW, I am a bit of a noob, so I would double check everything I have said and hopefully someone else will chime in. Good luck!
