Surf Gate Spray

Recommended Posts

I’ve seen a discussion on here a couple years back about spray from the surf gates on the 2013-2014 MXZ22’s. A few of the post called fix to the problem “spray fix” any idea where I can get the parts to correct the spray? My local Malibu dealer hasn’t been able to help me. Thank you

Thx, sent them an email just to see if they had placement and mounting instructions, way to cheap not to try, I just don’t want to drill s wrong set of holes and then mske new holes to correct

I have a 2013 VTX. Does anyone know if these will help with spray while skiing? Spray is pretty bad any closer than 22 off 34 mph (maybe even further back/slower, but I haven't tried). as others have mentioned there aren't a ton of instructions.

@coop, I'd take that pdf if you still have it.

thanks!

You sure the spray is coming off the surf gate at ski speeds? Mine are completely out of the water. I do get spray but it’s side spray.

What speed are you skiing at? Any bow weight?

34 MPH usually, full bow ballast.

...and to think about it a bit... the time I noticed it most, was while my wife was driving and she admitted not setting the cruise, and pulling me at 38+ (I thought it was pretty windy, and my offside was waaay worse than normal). I have only skied behind it 2-3 times. Maybe the speed contributed to the spray more than the SurfGates?

Ill report back after I can get behind it. Just seeing if any VTX owners experienced this too. @ahopkinsVTX, thanks for the response.

I am hoping to pick the boat up today or tomorrow. The boat is still at the dealership (upholstery and gel coat work, that apparently started last week even though they have had the boat since Sept... I was supposed to pick it up 3 weeks ago, but that is a rant for another day.)

@rakr 38 is definitely going to send spray wayyyyy back! I get a bit of spray at -32 off when going into the wind but that’s about it.
