Boat measurements

Can someone with a vlx the old style 21' do a measurement for me. I know the book says 21'6" but they often do fancy math to get boat lengths. My lake actually measures boats and doesn't go by title for the 21' limit. For instance the NXT 22 will fit on our lake due to the fact that we measure from the middle of the front not the farthest forward.

The way the measure is to drop a plumb line from the nose and draw a line on the ground then at the drain plug in the back. If the early vlx's with surfgates are under 22 it would open up a lot more options here.

Thanks.

That is really surprising the middle fork of the NXT22 sits a foot back from the other tips, assuming that is where the 22' foot length in their specs comes from. I'm not sure what fancy math you are talking about, but wouldn't be too optimistic the 21VLX of that era is 6" shorter than posted.   The funny part may be whoever at your HOA was using the tape measure on that NXT :)

Anyways, if you don't get a response here, Craig (from WTW) has that style 21VLX and could probably go measure his.   He keeps it at his house.

I have a 2011 21 vride.  05 to 08 vlx hull (21.5 ft.)  Obviously pre surfgate, so may be apples to oranges, but I was changing my oil this morning and measured the way your lake measures,  from bow tip to drain plug.  I was surprised to measure roughly 20' 11".  After looking at the hull I can see the 6 to 7 inch difference between where the drain plug sits and the back bumper rail, which almost lines up with the back of the wedge bracket. (Floating wedge)  I assume Malibu measures from bow tip at bumper rail to center of bumper rail at stern?  When I do that measurement , I get the 21.5 ft.

boom this is awesome information thank you!  I may have a buddy who owns one of these bring it by for my lake patrol to measure to see if this opens up a whole new world for our lake.

Anyone have a newer surfgate equipped 21 VLX that they could measure?  it appears to have the same lip in the back as the previous hull.  Obviously pre the new hull thats 21 ft long.
