Throttle response issue

Recommended Posts

I have an 06 383 hammerhead in my 23 lsv. The throttle when decelerating is very jumpy. It’s not linear like when accelerating. When bringing it to neutral most of the time it will hold at 1200-1300 rpm. Forcing me to take it out of gear manually and blip it to get it to settle back to normal 800-900 rpm. No matter how slowly I pull back on the throttle it doesn’t seem to make a difference in the operation. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

I haven’t had it to the dealer yet. I’ve got an appoint in a couple weeks to have them Chk for codes.

On a 2007 you should have an electric controlled throttle body, but I have seen a couple different kinds of helm controls on those.

The MV3-E (black, one cable) or ZF (chrome, no cables, just wires) helm electric throttle controls can stick at high idle if the screws that hold the pedal position sensor in place are too tight, or if there is a problem with the Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) on the motor.  The TAC isn't serviceable, so don't take it apart.

The same problem can happen with the throttle mate electric sensor, that is on the motor, on boats that have a mechanical MV3 with shift and throttle cables.  The cable may also come loose from its anchor point, or just need adjustment to put the throttle mate arm against the stop.

Vacuum leaks can also cause high idle.

I don't know if that will help, but at least you can eliminate some of the more common causes.
