Boat smells like sewage when driving

Recommended Posts

2011 Malibu vlx with 350 hp,

just bought it. While driving across lake we smell "sewer smell" like rotten eggs. It goes away when you stop

why is this and what do I do ?

Have you looked around the engine compartment? Fluid leak,  dead rodent, anything that might start "cooking" when the engine is running. Otherwise, I think 05hammerhead is on the right track with an exhaust leak. Does your boat have Cats?

How do the spark plugs look. I might give it a good run and let the cats burn for a time. Was the boat being used? Or has it been sitting for a time? Have you checked for any codes. It does sound like the cats. Did you fill with fresh fuel if the boat has been sitting?  Need some history on the boat. How many hours on the engine?  sounds like a bad air fuel ratio,

I have the same issue and I was wondering if it might be the bilge that is smelling. I think it is the airflow when you are underway that makes the odour come out into the cabin. I’m going to clean mine and see what happens.
