Cotter pin? On a rudder?

To the op what in the world are we looking at? Crack in the rudder and a missing plug weld?

The vertical cracks from the top of the rudder to the hole.  Not sure if the hole was like that or the dealer made it in the process of the repair.  I have no clue about how this goes together.

The hole is more like a pit due to erosion of the rudder from the flow of water.  The repair should include filling the pit while welding the crack.

Looks like a casting flaw to me.

New rudder minimum.

The SS rudder shaft appears to be bent and the crack most likely occurred on impact.

Weird. Whatever caused it, I think it needs replaced. Even for peace of mind.
