Good wakesurfer for shuvs and revert riding

I used to wake skate a lot in college and have been gravitating towards more skim style tricks. I currently have a Buerly Buzz 4’7” which really just doesn’t work riding revert and doesn’t really lend itself to learning shuvs easily. I wanted to demo a hammerhead from performance ski and surf the other day but they didn’t have one in for demo at the moment so the closest thing I could try was an LF Keen. The board was OK but I would prefer something more symmetrical. I’m about 6’1” and am currently around 210 but looking to trim back down to 195. Just wondering what boards have worked for most people? I have clips of me attempting the shuv with the board forward and starting revert. Had a hard time landing and staying in wave from revert, rode with single center fin in.

Your good , just land front foot more forward on revert.  Say you surface 180 spin to switch , your rear foot would be way forward based on your good feet back riding position snd folks surf switch more that way  .  WHICH is better to surf style .  People with your skills simply surf in a more balanced surf foot positioning on skim .

With your skills you don’t need skim and based on your foot riding preferred position, you could easily   accomplish all of this on surf style with a slightly wider stance.  See Ashley Kidd , pro yes but your skills are higher than you think.

Your using your narrow skateboard and wakeskate stance cause its natural fir you, widen your stance to remove the back board surfing that is all brakes snd no gas

i like your foot positioning on surf cause its loose, but fir those tricking surf or skim they use more front foot forward .  This also allows the back foot to be further back translating to further forward when switch (revert as you said )

and if you don’t widen them then you need to more center your narrow stance in the Board

guy i surfed against recently did it that way and got 2 shuvs back to bavk after a 3

Watching Austin Keen ride I would say you were on a board that was good for shuvs and revert riding.

As for the hammerhead the idea behind blunt nose boards is they ride like a longer board (picture a pointed tip on the blunt) and should be better for taller bigger riders. The hammerhead might be a good fit even if you get down to 195 your height and stance width will probably keep you on a longer board.  The blunt nose board will feel like a longer board without actually being longer.

But don't worry so much about a board being perfectly symmetrical.  At the start of this season I thought riding my quad fin surf board revert would be impossible but am slowly proving myself wrong.

It sucks that its so hard to demo boards.  We are I the market for a new surf style board and it's just a complete guessing game.   I think we will be doing custom boards this off season.

Your getting the shuv but just laying back when you land. Land with a more centered stance on the board and you will land it no issue. It's not the board but your body positioning.

Update picked up a hammerhead this offseason on the cheap. Landed it from revert on my 3rd set out on it!

I have to say it’s my favorite compression molded board. It’s light fast and you can ride it surf style or skim style with a fin change.  Good all around board.
