Malibu 2004 LSV Beeping

Recommended Posts

Last weekend at McConaghy we were wake surfing with full ballast and wedge down and I noticed I was getting a 3 beep sound that came on during this high strain time.   After that time it never seemed to go away. If I turn off the boat it goes away for a few minutes but always comes back. After extended use, it sometimes turns into a constant beep. After I got home I dove into it deeper yesterday but still have not been able to figure it all out.

Here is where I stand today.

I changed the oil and filter, then I changed the knock sensor and fired the boat up. It ran at idle for with me revving the engine for about 5 minutes before I heard the beep again. Its three beeps with the first one sounding like a half beep, then a pause and 3 more beeps over and over. When it was under pressure this weekend at the lake after a while it goes to a consistent beep every second or so.

I went back and looked at the oil pressure sensor and the two leads that come into them.  I am attaching a few pictures for reference.

This is of the oil pressure sensor that has the brown wire on it and is located on the back side of the oil filter. If I take this wire off the lead the horn changes over to a consistent beep every second and does not stop. When I put the wire back on the horn goes back to 3 beeps then a pause.  Could this be the cause of the issue?

When I take this lead off it doesn't seem to affect the beep one way or another. Meaning it didn't start the beep and it doesn't stop the beep. I didn't see a part for the portion of the sensor.

Here is an image of my gauges while the beep is going off. Everything looks normal and this is how it was this weekend. This is at idle and after a few minutes, the beep starts and the gauges look like this.

This is a picture of the oil pressure sensor from bakes as a replacement. I assume its the same part just different color. https://imgur.com/CqF7kSh

I just don't want to take it to Tommy's slalom if I don't have to because I'm sure it will $500-1000 for nothing.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Jeff

The one with the blue wire is the oil pressure sending unit for the gauges.   (Same one as the Bakes that is a different color that you linked.)

Think you need the oil pressure switch sensor.  https://www.bakesonline.com/indmar-oil-pressure-switch-sensor.html  This is the one that goes to the alarm.  It could be going bad, and causing the issue.  Mine was leaking last year took awhile to track down and dumped a lot of oil in the bilge for a number of weeks before I could isolate the leak since it only leaked when the engine was running and building pressure.  Mine still worked just leaked.

When I take the wire off the sending unit I get a constant beep which seems backwards from what you are saying.  However, when I take the wire off the oil pressure switch nothing happened no beep at all?

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

If it's beeping it's due to the switch.  Switch triggers the alarm.  I'm not sure if they connect at the gauge to  communicate with each other.

What happens to the gauge when the wire is pulled off the sending unit?  Is the picture of the gauge when it beeps with a pause? Or when disconnected?

Beeps with a pause is what the pictures of teh gauges are showing.

Next step would be to know what happens to the gauge when the sensor is disconnected.
