2011 vlx with lsa overheating

We have a new to us this year vlx with the lsa engine and are having problems with the temperature climbing up when driving slow. If we are slowly idling along for any amount of time the temperature starts to climb and sets off the overtemp alarm. If we increase the rpm’s the temperature quickly drops back to normal.

The boat was new to us at the beginning of the season and has sporadically done this off an on.

I changed the raw water impeller at the beginning of the season and the old one looked brand new. The closest dealer is a 5hr drive, hoping it’s somthjng simple.

does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help

*edit - it has the shower and heater also. Not sure if that comes into play.

Mine does the same thing.  Time to change the thermostat.  What you're seeing is it sticking a little.  Just get a new one.  Not a bad idea to drill a 3/16 hole in it for extra precaution.  We do that in our race cars.  Easy to change.  Might not be a bad idea to buy an extra and bring it with you.  You'll need a 9/16 socket to change the 3 bolts.
