Shore anchor options?

What are you guys using to secure the stern of the boat to shore? I have been using a box anchor with anchor buddy on the bow and a 4' piece of 1/2" rebar driven 3 1/2' into the sand with an old tubing rope secured to the stern. I have never been happy with the way that the rebar holds in the soft sand. I would rather not spend $90 on a Shore Spike.

I found this at Home Depot for $14.  What do you think? Any other cheap ideas?

I have one similar to the Home Depot one you posted but even cheaper. I have considered a shore spike but they take up so much room and are heavy. Mine holds in most situations. Not real good on rocky shores but has never let me down.
