Fuel gauge

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 2000 SS lxi. The fuel gauge is not accurate. I’m guessing it’s the sending unit.  Has anyone had a similar problem and was it the sending unit?

Also, how do I find the hour meter? The boat is equipped with perfect pass.

Thanks

Mine wasn't accurate when I got it (99 model). In my case the float on the sending unit had lost it's buoyancy and wouldn't stay on top of the fuel in the tank. I replaced the sending unit. If your gauge resets and buzzes when you key the ignition then it's probably not the gauge. If you have easy access to the sending unit you can ground the pink wire and see if the gauge reads full scale to confirm. Or you can pull the 18 pin connector on the bottom of the gauge computer under your dash and measure the resistance between the pink and black wires. Empty tank should be 240 ohms and full tank should be 33 ohms. You can also do this directly on the sending unit but the connector route is probably easier.
