Help! Small nick in the gelcoat...

Hi all - we are loving the new 2018 VLX and you have to expect things like this to happen...just perhaps not so soon. We have a small nick in the gelcoat on the back of the boat (in between the two seats)...about the size of a kids fingernail. It will bug the hell out of me - how do I fix?

I am a pretty handy guy but I don’t want to butcher it...help!

check out spectrum color patch kits. spectrumcolor.com

Comes in factory colors. My friend repaired his supra. Spread it on with a popsicle stick. Let it dry, sanded, buffed out like new. I haven't used it yet but I wouldn't hesitate to get it.

I use have used the spectrum kits with great success. Once i get the gel repair on I do the following:

-Wet sand from 800 grit to the finest sand paper I can find (i think its 2000 grit)

-polish with wool pad and hula boat care compound

- I have a 3 pack kit of foam pads from chemical guys (high cut, medium cut and polish).  I work from high cut to the polish pad with the hula compound.

-wax with hula wax and seal with hula polymer sealant.

I have a DA polisher. A DA polisher will take a little more work than a rotary but you can't really get into any trouble with a DA polisher.  Rotary polishers are able to generate more heat so you have to be a little more careful

Let a pro fix it.  I had a crazy crack across a stripe I thought could never be fixed. Found a guy in ca that fixed it to perfection. Search your area, it’s not crazy expensive to fix.

I had a pretty good chip in the gel on my old Crownline (Crownie) about the size of a half dollar.  A local fixed it to perfection for 350.  Only hassle was hauling to him, then picking it back up.
