New boat 2 issues

Just bought 2015 VLX  350 monsoon  engine.  Noticed these two issues today  

When driving across lake at cruising speed then slow down / stop fast engine makes a bogged down sound. The an exhaust smell of burnt rubber. 

When taking off hear a high pitch noise. Sounds like an alarm going off but from engine compartment. I’ll try and get video next time we’re out.

What did your temperature read?

I’d start with checking a few things before you run it next time. First, make sure your raw water valve is open at the through hull fitting. Next make sure your impeller is good. They are cheap, I’d probably just replace it. If you have a raw water strainer, make sure that is clean. Lastly at the transmission cooler there is a screen to make sure no debris get past there. Any one of these clogged up or not working correctly could cause poor water flow.

i took the liberty to add a few words to @ahopkinsTXi good advice.  if that strainer is sucking air you could run into suction problems.
