2012 Malibu 247 LSV-Adding Ballast

NCMALIBU247LSV

Recommended Posts

To all:

I have read multiple responses and opinions on Surf Setup for this boat. Some say its a bear to sink it but some say that when you do the 247 LSV will not disappoint. Boat has full Factory Ballast. Front, Center and Rear. L96 engine. NO SurfGate

I am reaching out for assistance on Plug and Play for a 2012 model. Is there a company that offers Plug and Play for 2012? Also best recommendation for rear ballast addition and any way to connect to factory system.

Thank you all in advance!

I have 06 247. 8.1L (200# heavier than L96).  Wakemakers 910# in rear lockers, 1000# fatsac triangle bag in bow. 500# of lead. GSA. Full factory ballast., Wedge from 1/2 to full. 10.4 - 11 mph. Wave is money.

That looks amazing.  Were you listing prior to adding the GSA?  I bought a 2012 this spring and have been trying the aftermarket suck gates but DIY surfgate or GSA look really tempting.

I was listing. (And have the custom dong sack that fills the whole port side for sale if you're interested.) That wave was great, this is even a bit better, although i do have an extra 1000# in the boat. Add in all the benefits of a surf system and you see why nobody surfs listed anymore.

The one guy I Know with a 247 with gates said he thought tab system on mine had a better wave. I have 2 buddies I ride with regularly that have the mission and nauticurl suck gates. I personally like mission design better, but both are great waves.

I currently have the Ronix Blade which I bought from the dealer who sold me the boat.  It broke the first time I tried it out and they replaced it under warranty.  I think it's just a bad design and I have trouble getting it into the correct position.  The GSA is very appealing to me making it a push button feature to setup.  Thanks for the feedback.

I have to concur with @TimbrSS... While I have the 23 LSV, I have GosSurfAssist as well, factory ballast, 1100s piggy backed in rear, 400s under coffin seats, and redid front with 1000 triangle hidden ballast.

DO NOT USE WakeMakers plug and play... It is all wrong in design and will cause air lock in bottom tanks (bottom tanks will not fill full until all the air burbs out and takes hours)...

WakeMakers has all the parts you need to create your own plug n play

I upgraded my fill pumps in rear to 1100 gph pumps, If you use the Piranha pumps, their intakes a .75 and no modification is needed to thru hull.

From my fill pump it goes to a check valve then to a wye fitting... wye splits to hard tank and bag. Vent from hard tank goes to bag.. bag vents to thru hull... It is imperative that you fill your hard tank first if it is piggy back system.

Enjoy your new boat!!!!

I just went with 2 reversible Johnson pumps per bag (AKA Johnson 6-pack) that work independently of the stock ballast system... it's fast!

@TimbrSS Any chance you could post a pic of the back of your boat w/ the GSA installed.  I'm trying to picture if they extend outside of the swim platform or if they tuck under it.

They definitely stick out a bit. Haven't had anyone open their skin on them yet though.

Did you have any luck getting setup for surfing?

Can anyone who is running extra ballast on their 247 tell me what prop they are using? We have a 2012 247 with the 550 engine and have been surfing with the mission delta. We recently added on some 750# sacs in each locker and the boat is unable to get over 8mph with full factory ballast and the extra weight (4-5 people on the boat). I've been searching the forums and it seems like there are people out there that are running a lot more than that so I'm trying to figure out what the issue might be.

I just moved to an Acme 2419 from an Acme 1235 on my 247.  I'm currently running 750's in the rear locker and I can get to 11-12mph.  When I add a 675 to the bow it seems to get up to speed easier.  Received the piggy back system with 1140's from wakemakers today to replace the 750's.  Hoping this will finally let me build a wake that I'll be able to go ropeless on.

@powkat.. For reference with my 23 lsv:

350 enginge

Sea level

all factory ballast full minus front tank

Piggy backs in rear full (1100 each... does not fill to that prob 900-975)

surside under coffin seat 400

front 700 - 900 (fly high sac v sac under front seats (custom built to fill to 900)

Prop 2777

wedge 0 - 4 clicks

Where is your wedge positioned at? it is better to start with it deployed and bring up to desired position once boat hits speed

you should be able to build a wake with the 750s to go ropeless on. Do you have surgate or using something else (edit... should have looked up on your previous post.. what are you using now)?

I'm using a Mission Delta and we had a nice looking wake with a pretty curl at the end but I wasn't able to ride with slack for very long.  I'm riding a Byerly Buzz which the pro shop guy recommended.  Unfortunately, there aren't any shops near me that allow you to demo boards.  I'm 6' 2" and around 235 at the moment so not sure how much size, weight and board selection play into the ability to go ropeless.  I've wakeboarded for years and I'm really comfortable on a board just trying to get the hang of surfing.

I am not a fan of popout boards... can't help you there.. but the board makes a huge difference as well.. do you have a pic of you wake?

No, I had told myself to get a pic but we got distracted trying to ride it.  I was planning to get some pictures this weekend and post them up for some critique.  I knew the board wasn't the greatest but figured it would be good enough to get the family started and then could be deligated as a boat board.
