2006 VLX Center LCD Screen Randomly doesn't work?

Recommended Posts

So this has happened a few times on my 2006 VLX. The center screen (where the ballast info, other settings, and the cruise is set) will occasionally stop displaying. Generally it rectifies itself after a couple of minutes or when the boat is cycled on/off. I'm concerned that this could potentially ruin a weekend with not being able to use the cruise for wake boarding/surfing. Is this a precursor to the screen going out? Just flake communication to the controller? Is there any protection built into these units (heat, etc.) that would cause them not to run?

I had a similar issue and sooner then later unplugging and plugging back in no longer resolved the issue.  The only way I knew the controller was still plugged in was at night it was still backlit.

I have used CRC spray cleaner on the molex plug that goes into the MMDC. Clean the male and female pins and use some dielectric grease on the connection. That has always fixed mine, on our 08 VTX.

Crazy thing is, my red button on left side of the display came off and there is a plastic plunger rod goes into the MMDC and I super glued the red button back on but its loose in the hole now of the display. Can only hope I can seal it w some electrical tape and not cover up the ballast and cruise buttons but that it will hold. First world problems, geez.

If anyone has ever had the issue I have please let me know a remedy, TKS
