Dead Fuel Pump?

Recommended Posts

Update:  before replacing fuel pump, I checked and indeed there was 12v at key turn, so went ahead and replaced fuel pump.  Thought it was gong to be plug and play, but since the orginal pump is no longer made, install was a little different.  2+ hours, (took lots of breaks as it was mid 90s in the shade).

After install, key on immediately fired pump for pressurization. Boat fired right up and ran fine on hose.  So I'm hoping everything is good to go.

For the heck of it, I attached the old pump directly to 12v, to my dismay it actually ran.  I did not try starting right before I replaced it as I didn't want pressurized gas if it did fire.  However, I have probably tried it 30 times and it never ran before towing it back to the house.

I'm hoping the pump was just failing intermittently and the bumps in the road made it work again.  I looked for the relays tvano was referring to.  Unfortunately on my boat they are under a plastic cover (easily removed), but then attached to the bottom of a large metal plate.  They would be a bear to get to so hopefully my problem is solved.  Will be running it on the 4th so should know pretty quickly.
