12 Inch Touch Screen Issue

Recommended Posts

I have been experiencing an issue with the 12 inch touch screen. When I power it on the touch screens there is a disclaimer that comes up in the middle of the screen. When I try and close it out it won't clear the screen. For some reason the touch feature doesn't work. All the gauges work fine but I can't fill the ballast tanks since the message will not clear. The 7 inch screen on the right of the helm works fine and have had no touch issues.

Your dealer should be able to get it fixed, but you could also check the cat6 cable on the screen.  On most 18 models, I think the viper box is behind the starboard front seat, mounted above the subwoofer.  There is a cat6 (like a network or internet cable) that goes to the 12 inch screen and one to the 7 inch screen.  Two small allen bolts on the center of the back aluminum panel hold the 12 inch display in place, the cat6 cable is plugged into the back of the screen.  A loose or faulty cable can cause issues with the display or touch input.

csleaver that worked... I was able to remove the 2 allen bolts that were holding the screen in; when I pulled the screen out the CAT cable was not seated in the back of the screen squarely. I disconnected the cable and plugged it back in and its worked every time since. Thank for the information.

For reference: the 12" screen is just a second display for the 7" screen which houses the computer that runs the dash system. It's a Windows OS (some will debate what version), but since it's Windows you can plug in a USB mouse to the port in the waterproof box by the throttle or the port below the sport knob, by the horn button, on the left side of the dash. While not perfect, if the touchscreen goes out, you can dismiss the warning until you can get to the dealer.

If you're creating lots of rider profiles you can plug in a keyboard too, the typing is faster than typing on the touchscreen. Maybe I'm the only nerd that has a USB keyboard and mouse handy near the boat...

Now I need to "hack" that computer to get profile pictures instead of the defaults that Malibu provides.

Beginning in MY18 the viper 2 unit (computer) is a separate part. The 7" is also a display.

Very interesting; That might help with some of the "special projects" that I'm trying to accomplish. Now to figure out how to convince the wife it's time to upgrade. I have a feeling I'm still 5+ years away from a new boat.

Sounds like your problem got fixed, but just for future, the USB port that is under the phone holder on the sport dash is used for software updates - if you plug a phone in before you turn on the system, it will search for updates on your phone and the 12 inch screen won't work. Not sure if you plug a phone in that port, but that can cause that exact same issue.
