BAD Ballast pump connectors

Ok how on Earth first time I go surfing and can't drain on way home.. ch cked both connectors and they have bad connections and wires simply pulled out when I wiggled them.. seems like these supposedly waterproof connectors are junk anybody else had issues with them?.. easy fix and replacement I will have to do but it seems like little ridiculous 140 hours.. I can understand one connector about both for the drain strange...

They’re just standard Delphi weather pak connectors.

They are junk or someone didn't crimp wires very well

Connectors are good, likely a bad crimp.  My worry would be the same person probably did all your connectors hopefully the did not crimp them all poorly.

But worst case scenario the connectors are cheap and easy to put on.

Shoot a picture of the connector. I’m wondering which style Deutch connector they are using. If still using DT, you might consider swapping them to DTP while replacing them. Might save you future headache. I think most ballast pump manufacturers have switched now. The DT series connector pins are pretty light duty, and are prone to failure on high amperage circuits.

Not sure your dealer will stock DTP though, and might not be able to install on warranty.

If you want to fix it yourself..... http://www.deutschconnector.com/

the connectors are cheap, but the crimping tool isn’t. You can use regular crimpers on the pins, but it doesn’t work nearly as good. You are likely to end up with the same problem you have now. It’s best to use the tool that is made for the job...

It's the ones with two cylinder looking male/female parts.. found a crimper and releaser on Amazon for $25 will get that with some new ones on Amazon.

Obviously everything on Amazon is China knock off but should suffice may solder them if I get ambitious... Makes me wonder about the other 100+ connectors in the boat?

Oh gotcha! They are using Delphi style, not Deutsch! Hmm.... that might be half the problem.

might also be no problem at all. I haven't ever had much faith in the Delphi connectors, but that doesn't mean they aren't good enough.

I have used that pair of crimpers and release tool.  It takes a little practice to get good, but once you know how to do it you will get a solid connection.  I've used the cheap Chinese connectors and the OG delphi weatherpacks.  The real weatherpack connectors are definitely worth the premium.  The cheapies work, but the materials are kinda sub par and they are a little more fragile.

The weatherpack connectors on the other hand are what are all over the engine harness of any GM based product, and are very robust (if properly installed).

adding a tiny amount of solder wouldn't hurt, but too much and you make the pin/wire interface too big and then the pin won't snap in place.

when the wire pulled out, is it a bare wire or is the pin still connected to the wire?  If the pin is still connected, sometimes you can bend the little snap clip out a bit and stick it back in and all is good with the world.

Get the mertec one with changeable blades.  The one it comes with installed after finger squeezing the 1st clasp around rubber seal it ratchet squeezes both seal crimp and wire crimp at sane time in one squeeze you have to full ratchet cause it won’t release unless you make a full ratchet pull, works perfection

oops went for link and out of stock , guess a lot of marine and off-road mods going on, we just used it in the  much smaller 18-20 gauge RGB waterproof connector

I posted it in the RGB lights thread in stereo forum and helped the demand , someone besides amazon has one

Anyone got a link or name to the actual connectors used in 2018s.

have a faulty pump.  I just want to put connector on the pump side of new pump cartridge I happen to have so I can just plug it into the other half of connector.  Warranty issue but not waiting till my 50 hr service or paying 90 buck for the dock service.  Just want to find exact connector and use until warranty work.  Then put faulty pump back in for the warranty claim.

right now I just got wires jammed into the connector held in with some tape

I haven't looked at my '18 pumps but these connectors are all over the boat. These may be the same. I use these connectors for lots of projects. They require a $100 crimper to crimp the pins correctly but there are cheaper workarounds for them. You may be able to try with needle nose pliers and then solder them.

Weatherpack connectors

I can usually get them sufficiently tight with needle nose pliers.

I use a crimper from my local home improvement store.

It takes a little finesse but does a pretty good job, not perfect but I don't think they will fail.

I have this generic weatherpack crimper: https://www.amazon.com/GM-Delphi-Weatherpack-Crimper-Tool/dp/B005K006QS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1531849631&sr=8-6&keywords=weatherpack+crimper&dpID=31rl1UrNRXL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Never tried the real one, so I don't know what I'm missing.  This one seems to work fine for my intended purpose.
