Engine missing at 1300-1600rpm

I have a 99 Malibu Sportster With and indmar 5.7.    Runs great for the most part.   But from around 1300-1600 RPM it sounds like the engine misses a bit?   1700rpm and above runs like a top.   Ideas???

I'm no carb expert but just from the experience I've gained working on mine two things come to mind assuming it idles smoothly and runs fine at higher rpm:

1) Accelerator pump is bad/failing. This would result in more of an immediate bog upon giving it gas rather than a sustained miss at a constant throttle position.

2) The transition circuit of the carb is clogged. This would probably result in a hesitation and rough running at small throttle openings in the just-above-idle rpm range. Once you pass this throttle position and get into the main circuit the engine would seem to suddenly "catch" and jump up in RPM and run smoothly again.

Depending on when you serviced it last, you may want to consider a carb re-build (which should come with new accelerator pump)...as well as checking and maybe replacing plugs, cap and rotor since those are all maintenance items.
