Malibu 2015 TXI 0 thermostat

Hi.

I am a recent boat owner (newby!).  We just took the boat out of winter storage.  Was working great before storage.  Within in 10 minutes of first cruise, alarm went off, went into safety mode and was very hot.  Service Required notification was on the screen.  I think maybe we need a new thermostat.  Would appreciate ideas on where to get one and model #.  I am in Canada.

Before you replace that did you check the raw water strainer or strainer on the transmission cooler? Also, I know this sounds dumb, but is the raw water intake valve open? Impeller in good shape? Sounds like it didn’t get any water at all. So I’d check those things and make sure all hoses are clear before ordering a new thermostat.

Better yet, is the impeller even installed?  Who winterized the boat?

agree with @ahopkinsTXi, start from the inlet and work your way forward. make sure valve is open, line is not plugged, raw water impeller should be changed, trans-cooler should be cleared out. once that is checked then you can move to the T/Stat. However, it is nice to have a spare one around....

Definitely check the valve.  I know someone who has a mastercraft X something and the dealer winterized the boat but left the raw water intake valve closed.  The person I know, not mechanically inclined at all, didn't look nor did he know to look and ran the boat.  He smoke out his cats and burned up the exhaust hoses and back to the dealer it went for about 6 weeks.  

Otherwise, everyone's advice is spot on.  I would doubt a thermostat in a 3 year old boat, but anything is possible.
