Wetsounds and Crutchfield disaster...

Warning, long post...

We decided to redo the whole system on our boat this year and decided to go all wetsounds. Crutchfield is currently running a special on the rev8s and rev6s, so we ordered all 8 speaks from them. Went with the white ones along with the upgraded chrome grills. Saved probably a couple hundred going through cruthfield instead of wetsounds. When I ordered them, 1 rev8 was on backorder, no problem as my install was a month out at the time. Fast forward to getting the first 3 in the mail. Only one rev 6 was the chrome grill, the other rev 6 and 1 rev 8 were some other color-not even sure what the grill option was as it looks nothing like the ones on crutchfield (see pics). The customer service rep I talked to couldnt figure what grill color is was either.. The weird thing was they were all packaged in the boxes saying they had chrome grills even though only one did.

So needless to say, I am a little upset at this point, but whatever, I know crutchfield is a good online retailer and they'll take care of it. Well to make things more interesting, I look closer at the rev8 i got, its all scratched up, almost like it was used and returned (see pics). So I am wondering what the deal is... Anyway, call up CF, talk to customer service, which was great, send them pics, get it all squared away and they are over nighting me replacements. The next day, my backorder one goes through and that is now in the mail, great.

The overnight ones come in the mail, i open them up, wrong color grill again, correct box. At this point im a little ticked off and wondering what is going on. Something doesn't add up. To compound it, the speakers were not perfect, little nicks here and there.

Call up crutchfield again and they can't figure out what is going on.

In the end, i decided to keep the wrong color grills because I have all matching ones and the chrome grills are backordered until june 1st... of course, right?  And I had to wait a month to get on the installers schedule so I don't want to push that back anymore as we leave the boat on a lake a little ways away. They gave me a good discount on their mistake, and their customer service was great. I was also able to pick and choose the best ones so they aren't terrible, just not what i expected.

Where I am confused though is how this even happens. I am thinking wetsounds is giving their imperfection products to crutchfield to sell so they don't have to deal with them. None of my speakers I received were perfect, or what I would expect from buying a new product. The display boxes were all a little rough as well and the speakers were packaged differently-some had the grills facing up when I opened them, some had the grills facing down when I opened them.

Whole situation is pretty frustrating when you spend so much money on speakers and can't get the right ones. The discount was significant enough to offset the imperfections, plus I am sure they will acquire some anyways...

Anybody else have a similar or different experience buying wetsounds through Crutchfield?

Man, sorry to hear this and that is odd. Hindsight is 20/20, but I have found a call to places like Earmark gets me the right equipment at prices even better than Crutchfield, especially if packaging up a larger order.

Those do look really boogered up.  I would think about just returning and starting over at this point.  Hope  they get you taken care of!

I don’t think you have the wrong color... I think they have a protective film to keep the chrome from scratching... you can see ripples where it looks like you can peel off that coating.

hmmm you think? i guess i didnt even think about that since one came without the protective coating... if that's the case, i may need to delete this post lol

I’d bet money on it. Any chance the one without the coating is the same one you think is used? Grab a toothpick and start in a corner... bet that white film peels right off and there is pretty chrome underneath. Would explain them not being able to find the color either...

That makes sense. I guess I was just thrown off by one not having the film on it and crutchfield not knowing there was a film on it along with me not realizing that

This was a good laugh. My apologies, that I’m laughing at (what seems like) your silly mistake.

It happens.

All good! I'm laughing as well because it was what I thought a nightmare at the time. I think having one without the protective film just really threw me off. The film is so thin it was hard to notice lol

With all of this in mind, it really speaks to Crutchfield’s customer service. Kudos to them!

I was super impressed by their customer service. Just wish the product specialist could've identified the film on them :) lol (or me)

I also enjoyed this thread. Glad it worked out well for you.

I have bought from Crutchfield a number of times over the years and have always been happy with my experiences. They are not always the cheapest, but they have always seemed knowledgeable with good customer service. Your recent experience supports that.
