transmission cooler on OLDER models

a warning: those brass transmission coolers are mounted to the block w galvanized strap brackets; no insulation between .  

trans cooler is NOT even painted under the bracket so you have bare brass riding on nickel plated steel.  it's a battery, guys.

i found this in the process of preventative maintenance: replacing the pressurized hoses.

the trans cooler in my '04 (w somewhere around 1800 hours) is pitted and corroded but not as badly as i'd have guessed it should have been, under the circumstances.  

still serviceable.

my current plan is to repaint the trans cooler (all of it) then mount it with some kind of rubberized insulation.

This is interesting.  I'll check mine when I'm getting ready to go out next time.  I had it loose when I installed the heat exchanger, but I don't remember any issues. 

I do keep the whole engine coated with light spray oil, so maybe that helps reduce the galvanic action.  On the other hand, my boat was 15 years old when I got it, so it would have had a problem by then.
