Decided to get an actual surf boat and since I have length restrictions it was a choice between A20,NXT20, Mondo and Malibu VTX20... Tommy's Malibu of Grand Rapids MI offered an amazing price on leftover 17 and a  better buying experience than I could have expected. Just going to put a few coats of wax on it once it stops snowing, but regardless I am excited to get going....and I'll add pics once I figure out how!

Thanks! Tommys is world class... bought the boat at Buffalo Wild Wings in Lansing. My salesman Cole brought boat and met me half way, bought me and my son dinner, signed docs over beer, hooked up trailer and drove home... Doesn't get easier than that. Once I get it in my lake he said he will come down and show me how to make waves.. I would recommend Tommys to anyone.

So happy to have an East side Tommy's now!

Hoping your experience with a Yamaha 212X can help me.  I have had a 2010 Yammie 212X for six years, and truthfully it has been a great problem free boat for our younger family.  Kids are now getting a bit older, and I would like to move into an inboard for a number of reasons.  I have been looking online at the Malibu VTX and it appears opinions really vary on the number of occupants it can comfortably hold.  How do you find interior space from the 212X to the VTX (if you compared) or the A20.

I would really like a true crossover boat as kids (and adults) like everything from slaloming to wakeboarding, to wakesurfing which the VTX seems to do a great job, and also the VLX with a diamond hull seems to be satisfactory for skiing (although with a bigger bump than the VTX).  Anyway, if any previous Yamaha owners can offer their thoughts on the transition and if there are particular model years to look at, I would definitely value the information.  Unfortunately, we do not use it enough to justify going brand new but would consider in that $45-$60K area.

Looking forward to joining the Malibu team,
Brian

I can't help you with the Yamaha question, but one thing to note in the op's post is that his lake has size restrictions. If you don't have size restrictions(lake/storage), I would go bigger and look at used A22(6 adults), T23(7-8 adults), and A24(8-9 adults) with surfgate. I mention those boats because they can be had in your price range. Also, I don't ski, so I have no comment on that, other than the one guy who skied behind our 14 A24 was impressed with how flat it was.
