3rd battery in newer axis.

Recommended Posts

Im thinking of adding a 3rd battery(1 cranking, 2 for stereo). Has anyone done this yet in a newer 2017 axis. I have an a20. Also, i want to add a promariner onboard charger. Would i need a 3 bank charger or would a 2 bank work because two of the batterys would be in parallel? And in reference to my current amp setup, could i just leave them hooked up to one of the deep cycles and just add the other? And where is a good place to mount said battery and charger? Lots of questions, so fire away! Thanks

2 bank or 3 bank doesnt really matter, Just one with enough output for the size of the potential load, as in dead batteries. However, the 3 bank might get you a higher output for the 2-battery house bank, as long as you can stack two banks together.

I hoping your amps are not actually connected directly to one of the batteries. This is not what ive seen on other axis OEM systems. Likely wired to the switch, as it should be.

Could likely rotate the existing 2 batteries, set the 3rd in line, then move then forward/aft as needed to secure them.

I did the whole install myself. My boat had sp1. I ditched the stock HU and went with the mc1. You’re  telling me my amps shouldn’t go directly to the battery? But actually through the perko? If so, ive screwed up.

I have always run my amps directly to the battery. Each batter is attached to perko switch.  You are right that Malibu OEM does not go directly to battery.  Make sure either way you use a 250 AMP fuse inline.

Its my opinion, thats its best to go through the switch, rather then bypass it. Correct, Malibu wires through the switch. About the only boat builder I know that wires audio battery direct, it MB. They all get rewired if I ever get ahold of them.

For what? The amps? Circuit protection should be based on potential load, cable gauge and length.
