Why is your familiar so afraid of new loans? You write that he`s paid off all his previous loans, so what's the problem with taking a new one? And does he have enough cash to avoid going to the bank? There`s another alternative - look for another boat. After all, it's unlikely that the boat he chose is one of a kind, you can look for a similar option cheaper.
