Best location to mount 4 Illusion tower lights?

I'm going to install 4 Westwind tower lights on an Illusion tower and am wondering which location to install the lights....above the board racks on the outside or under the bimini in the front.

Anyone with lights on an Illusion have a recommendation on which location will provide the best light pattern, convenience (Westwinds can rotate 360 degrees to forward or back), etc...

Thanks in advance.

I mounted mine on the outside of the Illusion, so its one less thing I have to worry about smashing my head into.

With 4 total lights, they work fine in this position, although mine are the fixed lights, to match my speakers. Biggrin.gif

I mounted 2 forward far apart and two on the side back .

send me your home e-mail and I'll send you some pictures.

4 lights have been enough for us wakesurfing.

looks clean and you won't hit your head on them.

Things to ask...

How do plan on using your lights? What will provide the best light for what you do?

I don't surf at night; If I do, I'll ride with D-Goose Thumbup.gif

I have two HID's from LPA that are mounted on the tower under the bimini that face forward. They are used for driving back to the dock and through the marina. They are the brightest lights I've seen so far. My wife loves using them when trailering the boat after dark.

My guess is that you don't live in the socialist Republic of Kalifornia.

FYI - yabetcha

It's illegal to run your lights at night in CA. So, if you're planning to really use them in CA you'd be breaking two CA laws. Running your lights at night - CA laws states that they blind oncoming boats. And riding after dark is against the law as well.

Just make sure you're safe, and you have a place to do it where you're not going to get nailed.

I mounted the 4 lights facing forward.

We only use them when navigating through the no wake zone at the marina and docking at night. Yes they're expensive, but so far they've be invaluable for us since we like to have dinner at the lake and enjoy the peacefulness of the lake after dark.

Curious to know what "expensive" is???? I have tower lights coming with the VLX I purchased recently, but know that I will not use them.

So, I will plan to pull them off when I receive and sell here or on ebay. (or possibly trade as the boat won't have a bimini and I need one of those.)

Just wanted to get a feel for a ballpark on how much I may be able to sell them for so I can plan to buy the bimini now, or save up to buy one later.

Thx, Mook

Expensive is about 850.00 for four msrp halogens from the dealer. Usually if you buy the boat they give a 10% discount. I have been giving dealer cost to crew members so for four HID's they are 650.00. There is a range to start with. Personally, I would put them on e-bay for 200.00 starting and see where they go. I tried to sell 4 metcraft on e-bay for 200.00 and they never sold. Best of luck.

I bought some from DIYwakes and I'm having some brackets/threaded adapters machined. I'll post pictures up when I have them mounted, I think they'll look pretty good for less than $300 (hallogen only) and still mount them in the orginal illusion tower hole without drilling any more holes, I really only need them when we are loading the boat up late in the evening/night, it really makes it easier to see and get organized.
