I've only experienced it in a rental, but I got used to it pretty quickly.  It does open up a lot of space on the column or console.

I know, but I had it in a rental and felt uncomfortable every time I had to touch it... It's just not right.

I'll chime in the Chevy Ram comparo isn't legit. the Chevy is leather and the bighorn is cloth.  am a GM guy for gas motors.  my son and Godson both drove ecoboost 150s and changed to GM and ram diesel.  I have a Ram 2500 diesel and will never go back to gas for a truck.  power and torque out the wazoo.  esp. since I have it deleted  plus 200hp tune.  pulled my 257 (about 10000 lbs)thru hills at lake Ozark for 200 miles hand calcd 9.8mpg.
